The perfect blend of gross motor skill building and fun! Our preschool martial arts program gives your little one the tools to surpass their development expectations. Students who begin this young in Tae Kwon Do (and just about anything else for that matter) tend to learn longer term. In class there will be an emphasis placed on the physical techniques so that the student’s body can begin growing with the movements. This includes lots of running, jumping, climbing and crawling in order to help use up some of the little ones’ almost-endless supply of energy. The very basics of Tae Kwon Do will be covered in this course, with additions of important outside-aspects for children of this age, such as learning stranger self- defense, fire safety and (lost in the store) mall safety. This is one of the most popular courses due to its ability to keep young children interested,active and engaged! Family Tae Kwon Do (Ages 6 - Adult) Tae Kwon Do is a wonderful activity to practice as a family! Parents will have a great time working out with their children in the same class. Tae Kwon Do has SO many benefits for both children AND adults that it makes it the perfect way to stay fit and have fun TOGETHER. For adults, TKD helps to increase flexibility, relieve stress, strengthen balance and learn life-saving self-defense. In children, TKD helps to improve confidence, increase focus, build stronger physical skills like balance, coordination and agility, in addition to building great goal setting skills. No matter the reason for practicing Tae Kwon Do initially, students of the art benefit physically, mentally and spiritually. Practice Tae Kwon Do together but feel the benefits as an individual! Youth Tae Kwon Do (Ages 6 - 12) Tae Kwon Do is the Korean art of self-defense This art is taught to children to instill self-discipline and promote physical fitness. They will learn new skills every time they train and enjoy a sense of accomplishment,more focus and concentration, respect for authority, and self-defense. Confidence will build after each successful class is completed. This class also includes “mat chats” to help with various life skills such as bully prevention, responsibility, discipline, good manners and habits of a healthy lifestyle among others. Teen/Adult (Ages 13+) No matter the reason for practicing Tae Kwon Do initially, students of the art benefit physically, mentally and spiritually. This class promotes teens and adults to become physically stronger, more flexible, and more agile, as well as increasing a sense of balance. Students will learn traditional aspects of TaeKwonDo as well as modern methods of self-defense. It appeals to both the youth with its fun jumping and spinning kicks, as well as it does to the middle and senior aged adults with its emphasis on technique and self-defense. Traditional Karate for All Ages Ages 5-99 Traditional Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate – is an ancient martial arts style from Okinawa that ascribes to a softblock, hard-counter, philosophy and dates back to the 12th Century. Students will learn movements that were traditionally only taught to the Samurai Class. Shorin-Ryu training offers practical self-defense for people of all sizes and ages. Midwest Shorin-Ryu Health & Wellness Center provides a place for holistic, whole body exercise and training – Mind, Body & Spirit. Their application of Shorin-Ryu, Suiryushindo, teaches the practitioner to let their body “flow like water”. Water at rest is peaceful and calm. Water disturbed cannot be stopped. Friday Night Badminton League (Winter/Spring)Sports Leagues & ClinicsFriday Night Badminton League Ages 14-60+ Register early, league is limited to 32 participants. Come and enjoy open badminton. Participants need to know the basic rules and skills to play the game (as doubles). Participants will form groups of 4 (to play doubles) on their own based on skill levels. Shuttlecocks (plastic material for novices and feather material for skilled players) will be provided. Participants, please make sure to wear gym shoes. Youth Co-Ed Volleyball League (Winter/Spring)Sports Leagues & ClinicsYouth Co-ed Volleyball League Co-Ed Grades 3rd - 8th Registration Deadline: Wednesday, February 25 Come play Volleyball with us! We are so excited to be joining our local communities in order to continue to bring a Rec Volleyball league to Franklin! This is a skills development league where players will learn the mechanics of passing, hitting and serving as well as the flow and rotation during a game. It is not meant for Club level players. This league will be separated by combined grade levels and will be co-ed in nature. No evaluations will be held. There will be 6 weeks of games with an end of season Tournament on May 23. Teams will practice at Forest Park Middle School on Wednesday evenings. Games will be played on Saturdays at Cudahy High School. Practice Dates: Once a week on Wednesdays beginning March 18th (No practice the week of Spring break) Time will be either 6-6:50pm or 7-7:50pm or 8-8:50pm – practice schedule TBD based on the amount of teams registered. NOTE: Your last practice will be on Tuesday, May 19th NOT Wednesday, May 20th. Practice Location – Forest Park Middle School gym. Youth Co-Ed Spring Soccer League (Winter/Spring)Sports Leagues & ClinicsYouth Co-Ed Spring Soccer League Boys and Girls Grades K4 – 6th grade The Youth Co-Ed Spring Soccer League is designed for those who may be stepping onto a soccer field for the first time or may have already had some experience. Each co-ed team will practice once per week for 45 mins. Practices will consist of activities and drills that will familiarize players with the different positions on a team and topics such as shooting, passing, dribbling, and teamwork. Players will apply these skills during live games on Saturdays. No scores or statistics will be kept.*Volunteer coaches are needed. Coaches will receive a 50% refund at the end of the season* Registration Deadline: Wednesday, March 4th Waitlists may form if we don’t have enough coaches for the number of children registering. You will be contacted if we can add your child to a team. Franklin Rec Summer Youth Baseball League (Winter/Spring)Sports Leagues & ClinicsFranklin Rec Summer Youth Baseball League (Coach Pitch & TBall) Boys & Girls – ages 4 through 8 It’s the time of the year to play baseball with the Franklin Recreation Department. Come and join us for our summer youth baseball leagues. These are great programs which teach the basics of baseball/softball within a fun environment. There will be two weeks of practice before games begin. Once games begin there will be one game day and one practice day per week. Registration Deadline: May 15, 2026 You are not guaranteed to be on a team if you register after the deadline. *Volunteer coaches are needed. Coaches will receive a 50% refund at the end of the season* The head coaches will notify their team once the rosters have been made with team schedules. Practices will begin the week of June 8th. Schedule TBD. Coaches meeting: Comm Ed and Rec Center - Community Room: May 27th @ 6 pm. Games will run Mondays (Tball) and Tuesdays (Coach Pitch) night from June 22 – July 28. LOCATION: St. Martins Park (Next to Robinwood Elementary) ***Note: All children must bring a baseball glove each practice/game. T-Ball Boys & Girls, Ages 4-5 T-Ball is the entry level to baseball. There’s no pitching, rather the batter hits the ball off a stationary batting “T.” During T-Ball, your child will develop the primary skills of hitting, running, fielding and throwing. The players will gain an understanding of the fundamentals, which allows for minimal competitive league play. NO scores will be kept and each player will have a chance to bat each inning. PRACTICES: Start June 10 or 11 on Wednesday or Thursday evenings for 45 mins from 5:30-7:45pm depending on coaches availability. No Practice July 1st or 2nd. GAMES: Mondays, June 22nd – July 27th TIME: 5:15-6pm or 6:15-7pm. *Games last 50 minutes. Schedule will be set once registration closes. Coach Pitch Boys & Girls, Ages 6-8 Coach Pitch allows the coaches to pitch to their team based on each player’s needs. Coaches will modify their speed and distance depending on the ability of the players. The purpose of the league will be to continue teaching the players about baseball concepts and work on improvement of basic skills, including hitting, throwing, catching and fielding the ball. Please register under the correct age PRACTICES: Start June 10 or 11 on Wednesday or Thursday evenings for 45 mins from 5:30-7:45pm depending on coaches availability.
