Character Kids (Fall & Winter/Spring)Before & After School ProgramsAFTER SCHOOL THEATER CLASSES Grades 1st - 5th Sing! Dance! Act! Join us after school as we play theater games, build stage skills, learn music and choreography from musicals, and act out a script…all while having a lot of fun! Each session will feature new material so new and returning students are welcome. Focus is put on developing imagination, social skills, and a positive self-image through the performing arts. After School Chess (2026/2027 School Year)Before & After School ProgramsChess Scholars After School Chess Sessions Develop your child's intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Chess has been proven to enhance children's motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced players are welcome and will learn under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. Chess sessions will be held at your child's school after school. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------NEW THIS YEAR -- Chess Class at the CERC (Community Education & Recreation Center - 8355 W. Forest Hill Ave)CERC Chess Scholars (Grades 1-5): Develop your child's intellect through the royal game of chess! Come join us for our Middle School Chess Club to prepare your students for High School level competition as well as tournament play. In this club, we will be focusing on advanced gameplay such as openings, gambits, and historical game study, as well as notation and clock use/management. Compete against other students virtually and in person to bring your game to the next level! A fundamental understanding of chess is required to participate in this club.Fall 2026 -
Futura-Spanish (2026/2027 School Year)Before & After School ProgramsFutura Language - Before/After School Spanish Program If your child attends Southwood Glen or Robinwood Elementary, Spanish will be held at their school. Parents, you can register for Fall and Spring Sessions (8 weeks each), or for the year (16 weeks). If Spanish is not offered at your child's school, we invite you to register your child for evening Spanish class at the CERC. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- — Fall Spanish (8 weeks)Celebrate the season in Spanish! In Vamos con las Tradiciones (Let’s go with Traditions!) students explore fall and winter vocabulary through songs, games, and festive cultural traditions. Kids practice simple conversations about greetings, colors, weather, clothing, emotions, and seasonal activities while discovering celebrations like Día de los Muertos and La Navidad. A fun, hands-on class that builds confidence speaking Spanish—no experience needed. — Spring Spanish (8 weeks)Spring into Spanish with Vamos con las Celebraciones (Let’s go with Celebrations!). Students explore spring and summer vocabulary through songs, games, and cultural traditions from Spanish-speaking countries. Topics include greetings, colors, weather, nature, clothing, and holidays like Valentine’s Day, Semana Santa, and Independence Day. Kids practice simple conversations while having fun.
